The DC area is known for being one of the fittest regions in the country. In fact, the American College of Sports Medicine ranked Arlington the #1 fittest city in 2018. Clearly, exercise is an important part of Washingtonian’s lives. Residents at Park Van Ness are fortunate to have both the onsite fitness center filled with cardio machines as well as miles of trails behind the property in Rock Creek Park to get their blood pumping! This entire region is full of healthy exercise lovers with a competitive spirit. To appease all these fit folks, there are numerous races and running events hosted throughout the year.

Here are three great local races for those who relish the thrill of running in the cold!

This race is a particularly great option for Park Van Ness residents who have experience running on softer trails. The bulk of the run takes place on the packed-dirt C&O canal with the start/finish line right under Key Bridge on Water Street in Georgetown. The Half starts at 8 in the morning and the 5K runners begin just a few minutes behind them at 8:30. Registration fees are $30 for the shorter distance and $60 for those attempting the full 13.1 miles.
