Outdoor Fitness Classes in DC

Workout-in-DC

The weather in DC is finally starting to cool off and it truly feels like Fall is near. After a scorching hot summer, it’s nice to be able to exercise outdoors again comfortably. Luckily, DC is a city with lots of outdoor workout options to help fitness fans stay active throughout the pandemic. Check out a few of these great outdoor fitness classes in DC and sign up today!

WHAT: Pure Barre

WHERE: Union Market Rooftop

For a total body workout that focuses on flexibility and toning, Pure Barre is a favorite among fitness-focused Washingtonians. While the studios have recently begun offering indoor classes, aspiring ballerinas (and those just looking to strengthen and tone) can join the instructor and a small group on the rooftop of Union Market for a full 50 minute strength workout on Wednesdays throughout the fall.

WHAT: HUSTLE (Strength or Cycle classes)

WHERE: The Wharf

Spearheaded by local SoulCycle superstar Sunny Mae, these high intensity fitness classes on The Wharf are an amazing offering while the weather is still decent. Exercisers have the option of a traditional bootcamp workout or a cycle class to get the blood pumping. Known for her high energy spin classes and motivational music, Sunny Mae is one of those cult favorite exercise instructors that everyone should experience once in a lifetime!

WHAT: ELEVATE (HIIT)

WHERE: Meridian Hill Park

The High Intensity Interval Training gym founded on 14th street moved their classes to nearby Meridian Hill Park to ride out the Coronavirus restrictions. Now that guidelines have loosened up a bit, the southwest DC studio and the original 14th street location have reopened, but outdoor classes are still a popular option for many. Join the group at the park for more traditional Elevate workouts or a weekly cardio option at the Banneker Track and Field. Check out the website for the most up to date info.

Even though many fitness studios in DC are slowly reopening and offering smaller, socially distanced classes, many Washingtonians are not yet comfortable exercising indoors. These outdoor workout options are a great way to work up a sweat, socialize, and boost your immune system as we head into the chillier months.

Sign up for an outdoor fitness class in DC today, or take advantage of the wonderful walking trails or city bikes if you prefer to exercise to the beat of your own drum.
