DC’s Best Indoor Exhibits

Smithsonian-DCWith summer upon us, it’s important to find ways to have fun and stay cool. DC is home to museums and exhibits that are perfect to stay out of the heat and still make the most of your summer experience!

Here are a couple of the best indoor exhibits to check out in DC:

Catch an IMAX movie at The Smithsonian

There are three IMAX theaters at the Smithsonian Institute that contain the largest screens in the Washington D.C. region and measure up to six stories tall! With all of the latest movies playing on a screen that large, it’ll be hard not to be immersed in the experience.

Spectate the artistic expression of war

Artist Soldiers: Artistic Expression in the First World War exhibition is a collaboration between Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum and National Museum of American History. Located at the Air and Space Museum, this exhibit features work of artistic expression from two complementary perspectives: one, professional artists who were recruited by the U.S. Army; the other, soldiers who created artwork. Together they shed light on World War I in a compelling and very human way.

Use your senses for art

Senses of Time: Video and Film-based Works of Africa at the Smithsonian Museum of African Art explores how time and experience is produced by the body. Bodies stand, climb, dance, and dissolve in seven works of video and film—or “time-based”—art. Characters and the actions they depict repeat, resist, and reverse the expectation that time must move relentlessly forward.

With so much to see and so little time, it’s nice that these indoor exhibits are just a short metro ride away from Park Van Ness and the Van Ness neighborhood. So, however you like to spend your summer days and nights, these exhibits offer an experience that’ll get you out and about seeing all that DC has to offer.
